GRANTHAM, Pa. (Dec. 4) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to Messiah College on Friday and Saturday to compete in the host school's Petrofes Invitational. The Yellow Jackets placed 15
th in the 17-team field and were led by junior heavyweight
Rocky McGeary (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny).
McGeary placed eighth at 285 pounds after posting a 3-3 record with three wins by pin. He posted back-to-back pins on Friday to reach the quarterfinals. After falling into consolation, McGeary picked up his third fall of the weekend, before dropping a pair of decisions, each by two points or less, to settle for eighth place.
Junior
Harley Constable (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) also reached the quarterfinal round of his bracket, doing so at 141 pounds. After gritting through a 2-1 decision in his first match of the tournament, Constable rolled to a 22-10 major decision victory. His two-day run at Messiah ended with back-to-back losses.
At 197 pounds, junior
Luke Lavanway (Monroe, Mich. / Mason) bounced back from a loss in his first match of the day to score a pair of wins in consolations, including one by pin, during a 2-2 showing. Sophomore heavyweight
Trent Patrick (Delmont, Pa. / Greensburg Salem) had a similar run at 285 pounds. After falling in his opener by decision, he picked up a pair of hard-fought decisions of his own before being eliminated by McGeary.
Seth Evans (Sharon, Pa. / Sharon) added a win at 157 pounds for Waynesburg.
That Jackets will be away from the mats until Wednesday, Dec. 15, when they host Muskingum in a dual match. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
