WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 27) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team welcomed Bethany to John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. After the Yellow Jackets fell behind early, they battled back to tie the game and send it to overtime. Eventually the two conference rivals settled for a 2-2 draw in double-OT.
Bethany (1-1-1, 1-1-1) scored in the 36
th minute to take a 1-0 lead, an advantage they took into the halftime break. Just over eight minutes into the second half, Waynesburg (1-1-1, 1-1-1) freshman
Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) tied the game at 1-1 when fellow freshman
Logan Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk) set him up on a cross off a free kick.
The visitors regained the lead late in the 64
th minute and that second tally looked like it was going to be enough to get Bethany the win as time rolled off the game clock. However, with 3:34 left in the contest, senior
Daniel Hott (Cumberland, Md. / Fort Hill) was fouled inside the 18-yard box, giving him a chance to knot the score on a penalty kick. Hott did just that and made the score 2-2.
A chippy, physical 20 minutes of overtime saw a player from each team issued a red card, but few quality scoring chances. However, with 10 seconds left to play, the Jackets were awarded a corner kick. Corradi delivered a ball into a scoring range and sophomore
Samuel Hawkins (St. Mary's County, Md. / Great Mills) managed to get a head on the feed. Unfortunately, the attempt sailed high just before time expired on the draw.
The Jackets picked up the tie despite being outshot 22-13 on the day. Bethany also had a major 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper
Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) played all 110 minutes in net and recorded four saves.
Waynesburg will look to run its undefeated streak to three games on Wednesday, March 31, when Washington & Jefferson comes to John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
