Men's XC wraps up regular season

Jackets take fifth at Bethany Meet

BETHANY, W.Va. (March 6) – The Waynesburg University men's cross country team wrapped up its abbreviated regular season schedule on Saturday at the Bethany College Meet. The Yellow Jackets placed fifth at the seven-team event.
 
Waynesburg boasted three top-20 finishes in the 59-man field. Sophomore Jac Cokley (Cochranton, Pa. / Cochranton) led the trio with a team-best 14th-place time of 17:05. Freshman Andrew Kasper (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) followed Cokley in 18th place (17:14). Senior Matt Durgin (Winfield, W.Va. / Winfield) logged the number-20 time of the day (17:16).
 
Freshmen Trevor Verkleern (Greensburg, Pa. / Hempfield) and Matthew Shank (Windber, Pa. / Windber) completed the top five by posting times of 18:18 and 19:05 to place 30th and 37th, respectively. Waynesburg's scoring seven included junior Josh Hughes (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Beaver Falls) and sophomore Justin Burnette (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg-Salem).
 
Waynesburg is scheduled to return to competition at the 2021 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships. The event, which will be hosted by Bethany, is scheduled for Saturday, March 20.
