WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 10) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets battled the Bearcats for 90 minutes and scored a thrilling last-second 2-1 win at John F. Wiley Stadium.
Waynesburg (2-3-1, 2-3-1) wasted no time in establishing its attack, as freshman
Logan Corradi (Darlington, Pa. / Blackhawk) played a corner kick into the box, setting up junior
Jake Hall (State College, Pa. / State College) for the game's first goal 2:31 into the contest.
The Jackets maintained their lead into the second half, but the Bearcats managed to sneak a goal under Waynesburg senior keeper
Adam Dolan (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) to tie the game in the 46
th minute. That tally set the stage for a dramatic finish to the highly entertaining showdown.
With the score still tied at 1-1 with less than a minute remaining, Waynesburg took one last run at victory. The Jacket got a throw-in late in the game that found its way to freshman
Logan Gonzalez (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackhawk) who fired a perfect pass to sophomore
Samuel Hawkins (St. Mary's County, Md. / Great Mills). Hawkins didn't waste the opportunity, as he buried a header for the game-winning goal with just 16 seconds showing on the clock.
Waynesburg was able to run out the remainder of the contest for the thrilling victory.
The home team held a sizeable 18-6 advantage in total shots and put 10 shots on goal to Saint Vincent's four. The Jackets also attempted 10 corner kicks, while the Cats tried just one from the corner.
Dolan picked up the win in goal after making three saves in a 90-minute complete-game effort.
Waynesburg is back in action on Tuesday, April 13, when it travels to Thiel. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
