COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (Jan. 15) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team traveled to Ursinus College to compete in Saturday's Wil Abele Invitational. Led by their heavyweights, the Yellow Jackets placed 12th out of 13 teams in the field.

Junior Rocky McGeary (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny) advanced to the finals at 285 pounds for a second-straight tournament. McGeary rolled through his first two matches, winning them by technical fall and pin to reach the semifinals. After picking up his third-straight victory by decision, McGeary faced off with top seed Nico Ramirez of Southern Virginia. Unfortunately, Ramirez got the best of the Waynesburg big man by a 7-2 decision.

Staying at 285 pounds, first-year sophomore Trent Patrick (Delmont, Pa. / Greensburg Salem) posted a 2-2 day with a pin. Freshman Ayden Bishoff, a second-semester transfer, picked up his first collegiate win with a decision in his opening bout of the tournament.

Junior William Simpson (Eighty Four, Pa. / Bentworth) logged a pin in the 174-pound weight class.

Waynesburg returns to dual competition and takes part in its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match of the season on Thursday, Jan. 20, when Washington & Jefferson comes to the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
