MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 27) – The Waynesburg University softball team got the 2022 season off to an explosive, but extremely abbreviated start on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets were up 10-5 on a 6-0 Castleton team before heavy rains not only halted that game, but also postponed the day's second contest against Northern Vermont-Johnson.
After falling behind 5-1 following two innings of play, Waynesburg (0-0) exploded for a nine spot in the top of the third. Sophomore third baseman
Sydney Senay (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) drilled a bases-clearing double that helped spark the big frame.
Freshman centerfielder
Dilyn Roberts (Sellersburg, Ind. / Henryville) went one-for-two from the leadoff spot with two runs scored. Junior catcher
Brin Hunter (West Alexander, Pa. / McGuffey) posted a three-for-three start with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored, while sophomore pitcher
Ella Brookman (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) and sophomore first baseman
Emma Bliss (Uniontown, Pa. / Laurel Highlands) logged an RBI each.
Because the game only lasted into the third inning, it is not considered an official contest.
Not only will the Jackets face UNV-Johnson tomorrow at 10 a.m., but they are also scheduled to face Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Grove City in a non-conference game at 12 p.m. and Widener at 2 p.m.
