INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 9) – On Monday afternoon, the Waynesburg University softball team learned where it will begin its run to an NCAA Division III national title with the unveiling of the 2022 championship brackets. The Yellow Jackets will travel across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and into New Jersey to face off with East Connecticut State.
 
The game, which will be hosted by Kean University in Union, New Jersey, is scheduled to be played on Friday, May 13, at 4:30 p.m. Waynesburg will serve as the four seed and face the top-seeded Warriors in the second game of the day. Host Kean, the two seed, will face third-seeded Alfred (N.Y.) Alfred at 2 p.m.
 
Waynesburg (27-9) reached the tournament by winning its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title since 1993 on Sunday. That victory awarded the Yellow Jackets the PAC's automatic qualifying bid.
 
ECSU (37-4) is going to nationals for a third-straight year after rolling through the Little East Conference Tournament. The Warriors, who have won their last 21 games, claimed the conference crown after winning their three LEC tournament games by a combined score of 21-0, including an 11-0 triumph in the title tilt.
 
The two opponents have faced a common opponent this season. Waynesburg squared off with Castleton, which is also a member of the LEC, way back on Feb. 27, at the Fast Pitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Yellow Jackets were leading the Spartans 10-5 in the third inning before the game was suspended and never completed because of rain. ECSU is 3-0 this year against Castleton and won the trio of meetings by a combined score of 21-1.
