ARLINGTON, Va. (Sept. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team opened its 2022 schedule on Thursday when it traveled all the way to Marymount University to face the Saints. The Yellow Jackets wound up on the wrong end of a 3-0 final score.
Marymount (1-0) raced out of the gates and scored twice in the first 5:29 to take firm control of the game. To Waynesburg's (0-1) credit, the deficit stayed at two goals for the next 75-plus minutes. Unfortunately, the host team closed out the victory with a score in the 81
st minute.
Five different Waynesburg players attempted one shot each in the season opener. Sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) did all he could to give his team a shot by stopping 9 of 12 shots on net.
The Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 3, when they host Penn State Altoona for the 2022 home opener. Kickoff from John F. Wiley Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
