Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer puts scare into unbeaten Baldwin Wallace

Waynesburg fights back from 3-0 deficit, before falling 4-2

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted undefeated Baldwin Wallace on Saturday evening for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. After falling into a 3-0 halftime hole, the host Yellow Jackets answered with a pair of second-half goals, but couldn't get the equalizer in a 4-2 loss to the visiting Yellow Jackets.

BW (6-0-1) found the back of the net 28 seconds into the contest to take an early 1-0 lead and added scores in the 20th and 23rd minute. Things could have gotten completely out of hand, but Waynesburg (2-3-2) was able to hold the deficit to three goals as the first half came to a close.

The Jacket offense found its legs in the second half and made the night a whole lot more interesting with goals in the 50th and 78th minutes. Freshman Luke Griffith (Concord, Ohio / Riverside) got the host squad on the board after being set up by junior Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom). Just under 28 minutes later, senior Samuel Hawkins (St. Mary's County, Md. / Great Mills) made the score 3-2 with his third of the season, an unassisted tally.

Waynesburg kept sticking around and hunting for the equalizer as the game inched closer to its conclusion. Unfortunately for the Orange and Black, Baldwin Wallace logged a crucial insurance score just before the start of the 86th minute to seal up the win.

Sophomore Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) started in goal and made five saves in the first half. Freshman Clayton James (Silver Spring, Md. / St. John's College H.S.) played the entirety of the second half and tallied a save.

Though it came in a loss, Hawkins put together solid offensive numbers by tying for the game lead with four total shots and posting a contest-best three shots on goal.

Waynesburg opens PAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it hosts Franciscan. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
