PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 24) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled north to Pittsburgh on Saturday for its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game of 2022. The Yellow Jackets bounced back from a 1-0 deficit to earn a 1-1 draw with the Cougars.
Chatham (1-5-2, 0-1-1) opened the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute and was able to carry that slim advantage to the halftime break. The home team continued to lead after 19 minutes of play in the second half, before Waynesburg (2-3-3, 0-0-1) got the equalizer in the 64
th minute.
Sophomore
Seth Massotti (Douglass, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian) did the honors after taking a pass from junior
Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) and finding the back of the net with 64:19 showing on the clock.
From there, sophomore goalkeeper
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) and his defensive mates were able to keep the Cougars from regaining the advantage. Waynesburg's offensive pressure also produced a handful of scoring opportunities, including the final shot of the game, which came from junior
Ben White (Bluefield, W.Va. / Graham) with 1:05 showing on the clock. Unfortunately, the attempt was off the mark.
Francus added to his PAC-leading saves total with seven more stops on eight shots on goal. He currently has an even 50 saves on the season and his .806 save percentage is also tops in the league.
Waynesburg is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when it travels to Saint Vincent. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
