ELLWOOD CITY, Pa. (Sept. 6) – The Waynesburg University women's golf team opened the 2022 season with a dual match against Geneva on Tuesday at the Par 71 Connoquenessing Country Club. The Yellow Jackets fell to the host Golden Tornadoes 384-453.
 
Sophomore Audrey Rose Abatti (Holtville, Calif. / Holtville) finished just four strokes behind the individual medalist after posting a 24-over score of 95. Abatti was nipping right at the heels of the second-place performer, who tallied a 94.
 
Freshman Maeve Hanley (Punxustawney, Pa. / Punxsutawney) just missed out on breaking 100 with a 103. Another first-year competitor, Karina Volitich (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Mt. Lebanon) was also solid in her collegiate debut, carding a 112.
 
The Jackets' scoring four was completed by sophomore Jaclyn Rider (Smithfield, Pa. / Laurel Highlands).
 
Waynesburg is scheduled to return to the course on Monday, Sept. 12, when it competes in the Grove City Fall Invitational at the Grove City Country Club. Tee time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
