WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 30) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Thiel on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon to celebrate senior day. The Yellow Jackets honored their six seniors with a 3-0 victory the Tomcats.
It didn't take long for Waynesburg (6-3, 3-1) to tally the eventual game-winning goal. Just 91 seconds into the contest, freshman
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) did the honors with his team-leading sixth of the season.
The Jackets added a pair of insurance goals 13 minutes, both of which came from one of the day's honorees: senior
Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom). Mohrbacher scored the game's second goal late in the 10
th minute and struck again midway through the 14
th minute. Junior
Seth Massotti (Douglass, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian) assisted on the day's second tally.
The trio of scores was more than enough for junior goalkeeper
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) and his defense, which pitched its second-straight shutout, and fourth of the season. Francus tallied four saves, including three in the second half, to earn the decision in goal.
Waynesburg will look for a third-straight conference win on Wednesday, Oct. 4, when it travels to Washington & Jefferson. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
