Box Score ALTOONA, Pa. (Oct. 16) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team stepped outside of Presidents' Athletic Conference play on Monday for a road trip to Penn State Altoona. A goal in the 59
th minute provided enough offense for the Yellow Jackets to score a 1-0 triumph over the Lions.
Waynesburg (9-4-1) picked up the day's only goal off the foot of junior
Connor Jacobs (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro). Sophomore
Taylor McFarland (Wheeling, W.Va. / Wheeling Park) picked up his first point of 2023 by assisting on the tally, which was Jacobs' fourth of the fall.
Waynesburg outshot Penn State Altoona (5-4-1) 15-8 on the day, but held just a slim 5-4 edge in shots on goal. The Jackets also attempted five corner kicks, while the Lions didn't get one kick from the flags.
Freshman
Zach Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton La Salle) made his first collegiate start in goal a good one, as he stopped all four of the home team's attempts that were put on net for a complete game shutout.
The Jackets return to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when they host Grove City at John F. Wiley Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
