MEADVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 7) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team traveled to Allegheny on Saturday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match. The Yellow Jackets rode an impressive display of offensive efficiency to an explosive first half that eventually led to a 5-0 Waynesburg win.
After having its first shot of the game blocked, Waynesburg (7-4, 4-2) scored on its next three shots on goal and four of its next five. Freshman
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) tallied the eventual game winner 9:45 into the contest. Just 58 second later, senior
Alexander White (Bluefield, Va. / Graham) headed in a corner kick from his twin brother
Benjamin White (Bluefield, Va. / Graham) to double Waynesburg's advantage to 2-0.
The barrage continued midway through the 11
th minute, as Johnson tallied his second of the game, this time off an assist from
Alexander White. In a flash, the visitors had built a 3-0 advantage. Late in the 22
nd minute, senior
Tyler Mohrbacher (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) got in on the act with his fourth in three games to put the Jackets ahead 4-0.
Things calmed down at that point and Waynesburg carried its four-goal advantage into halftime.
Despite being outshot 15-9 in the second half, it was the Jackets that scored the only goal, and it was Johnson who did the honors to complete his first collegiate hat trick. The freshman standout's ninth of the year was collected in the 77
th minute and sealed up Waynesburg's fifth PAC win, the program's most since 2014.
Despite being outshot 23-16 overall, the Jackets posted10 shots on goal to Allegheny's eight, all of which were turned away by junior goalkeeper
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park), giving him three complete game shutouts on the year.
The Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 11, when they host Bethany for another PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
