WAYNESBURG, Pa. (April 3) – The Waynesburg University softball team will be holding its "Angels in the Outfield" suicide awareness games on Tuesday, April 25, when it hosts Allegheny for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader. The goal of the games will be to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention.
Along with both teams wearing purple and teal helmet stickers and other apparel, Team Hope, a suicide awareness and prevention group in Greene County whose mission is to spread hope, love, encouragement, advocacy, education and more to all in the area about suicide and mental wellness, will have a table with literature and individuals from the organization at the game. There will also be a table for donations to the Nyjel Paul Miller Tears in Heaven, Endowed Scholarship Fund.
The Nyjel Paul Miller Tears in Heaven Memorial Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a student attending Waynesburg University who meets financial aid criteria set forth by University policy and the Office of Financial Aid.
The scholarship fund was created by Nyjel's father, Allen, who is an employee of Waynesburg University. His hope is that the scholarship can provide students the opportunity to pursue their educational and career goals, while displaying a strong love and compassion towards those around them. This philosophy is reflected in the mission of the university itself and in Nyjel's life.
In addition, multiple families that have been directly affected by the devastating, life-changing consequences of suicide will be in attendance.
First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled to be thrown at 3 p.m.
