Softball heading to Indiana for nationals

Waynesburg will open tournament run against fifth-ranked Trine (Ind.)

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 15) – After winning its second-straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title on May 6, the Waynesburg University softball team learned where it would start its run at the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will travel to Angola, Indiana to face the fifth-ranked Thunder in the regional round on Thursday, May 18.
 
Waynesburg (29-8) and Trine are joined by Millikin and Wartburg in the four-team region. They will square off in a double-elimination format, with the group winner moving on to the best-of-three super regional round.
 
Trine finished the 2023 season with a 35-4 overall record and were champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Thunder comes rolling into nationals on a 12-game winning streak, with eight of those victories coming via shutout. Trine is led by senior pitcher Anna Koeppl, who boasts the top ERA in Division III (0.38). Led by Koeppl, the Thunder boast 20 total shutouts on the year, which is the third-highest total in the country.
