Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer stifles Hiram in 2-0 win

Yellow Jackets off to best start in a decade

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hosted Hiram on Monday night at John F. Wiley Stadium for a non-Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Yellow Jackets put together maybe their best effort of the year as they took down the Terriers 2-0.

The victory gave Waynesburg its first 3-0 start since 2013.

After a scoreless first half, graduate student Samuel Hawkins (Great Mills, Md. / Great Mills) recorded the eventual game winner midway through the 55th minute. The Jackets maintained their one-goal advantage until the 79th minute when freshman Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) produced an insurance tally that sealed up Waynesburg's latest victory.

The two teams played a relatively tightly-contested first half, but the home team tilted the pitch in its favor in period number two. The Jackets outshot Hiram (3-2) by a 20-10 difference on the night that included an 11-4 advantage in the second half.

Junior Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) was outstanding in goal, as he stopped all six shots on goal produced by the Terriers.

Waynesburg will look to keep the positive momentum going into a road trip to Pitt Greensburg on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Start time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
