YOUNGWOOD, Pa. (Sept. 13) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday for a non-Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match against Pitt Greensburg. The Yellow Jackets, who were looking to start the 2023 season 4-0, got the game's first goal to open an early lead. Unfortunately, it was the only time they found the back of the net, as the Bobcats bounced back with three unanswered points to take the contest 3-1.
The game was played at Westmoreland County Community College in Youngwood, Pennsylvania.
Waynesburg (3-1) freshman
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / St. Joseph Central Catholic) tallied his team-leading third goal of the season late in the 18
th minute to give his team the 1-0 advantage. Johnson scored on his only shot of the game.
Pitt Greensburg (1-3-1) got the equalizer early in the 32
nd minute and the two teams remained tied as they broke for halftime. Just over 10 minutes into the second period, the Bobcats posted the eventual game winner, before tacking on an insurance tally in the 75
th minute.
Senior
Logan Gonzalez (Beaver Falls, Pa. / Blackawk) put a pair of shots on goal for the Orange and Black.
Junior
Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) got the start in goal and played all 90 minutes between the pipes. He tallied five saves on the day.
Waynesburg is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 16, when it travels to Berea, Ohio, to play Baldwin Wallace in a battle of the Yellow Jackets. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
