ON WAYNESBURG
With a week six bye, Waynesburg's season is split into two five-game segments. The Jackets' opponents from weeks 1-5 are 20-8 this season, while their foes in weeks 6-11 are a combined 9-18 in 2024. The Jackets have won their last three games against the Bison, the longest active streak against any opponent in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. Waynesburg's last Homecoming win came in 2019 with a 14-13 victory over Thiel, which capped a run that saw nine Homecoming triumphs in 10 tries from 2010-2019, including seven-straight from 2010-2016.
ON BETHANY
The Bison are looking to spoil Homecoming and snap a 24-game losing skid. Much like Waynesburg, the Bison have already taken on the top of the PAC with games against four of the top five teams in the league standings through the first five games of the season. The Bison played a competitive 20-14 game against Allegheny in the opener before running into Case Western, Carnegie Mellon, Grove City and Westminster in their last four games. Bethany led Waynesburg 26-21 going into the fourth quarter in last year's matchup.
THE SERIES (WAYNESBURG LEADS 32-22-7)
Waynesburg's three-consecutive wins over Bethany marks the longest active win streak against any PAC foe.
Zayne Cawley rushed for a single-game program record 336 yards in a 34-26 comeback victory in West Virginia last fall. Cawley scored four touchdowns with scoring jaunts of 43, two, 21 and nine yards. Despite Cawley's breakout performance, Bethany carried a 26-21 lead into the fourth quarter. Thomas Burke connected with
Dakota Romantino for a go-ahead touchdown with 12:46 remaining and Cawley put the game out of reach with his final TD of the day. Cawley was named the PAC Offensive Player of the Week and to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Waynesburg's 371 team rushing yards were the fourth-most in program history.
JACKETS BACK IN ACTION
Junior running back
Zayne Cawley is familiar with the Bison from last year when he enjoyed a career day, rushing for a program record336 yards and four touchdowns on 41 attempts. Behind Cawley is another familiar foe for the Bison in senior running back
Hunter Cameron. Cameron enjoyed his own career game against Bethany in 2022 where the bruiser ran for 191 yards and three touchdowns.
KEEP THE BALL
Waynesburg ranks 29th nationally with only five giveaways through its first five games of 2024. The Jackets have won the turnover battle in three of five games and did not turn the ball over in their victory over Saint Vincent. Waynesburg ranks in the top 75 nationally in time of possession with over 31 minutes per game.
