ERIE, Pa. (October 23) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team dropped its final nonconference game of the season 3-0 at Penn State Behrend on Wednesday.
Waynesburg drops to 7-5-3 on the season while Penn State Behrend rises to 7-6-3.
With two important Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games against Geneva and Grove City looming on Saturday and next Wednesday, Waynesburg deployed a starting lineup that featured seven players who had started fewer than five games so far this season. The Jackets used 26 total players in the contest.
The Lions tallied goals in the 14th and 17th minutes to establish an early 2-0 edge. Waynesburg notched its first shot of the night in the 39th minute with
Connor Jacobs (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro) putting a shot on target. The hosts carried their 2-0 lead into the half.
Seven minutes into the second half, the game was stopped for 20 minutes due to an injury.
The Jackets won a corner kick in the 56th minute and
Michael Kanu (Columbus, Ohio / Tree of Life Christian) connected with a header after the insertion but it flew high of the goal.
The Lions tacked on a goal in the 65th minute to go ahead 3-0.
Dane Jones (State College, Pa. / Grace Prep) had an attempt in transition but his shot was turned away in the 70th minute.
Liam Mowbray (Cumberland, Md. / Allegany) ripped a shot in the 83rd that was parried away as the Lions secured the 3-0 victory.
Penn State Behrend held a 16-5 edge in shots on the evening and a 6-3 margin in shots on goal. The Lions had five of the game's six corner kicks.
Zach Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton La Salle) notched three saves on the night.
The Jackets will honor their seniors ahead of Saturday's regular season home finale against Geneva at 4 p.m.
