WAYNESBURG, Pa. (March 18, 2024) – Waynesburg University Director of Athletics Tim Fusina has announced Andy Stanko ('17) as the department's Sports Information Director & Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication on Monday.

"Andy was identified early as the ideal candidate for this position," said Fusina. "His work at multiple levels of intercollegiate athletics and experience in growing a social media brand were some things that made him an ideal choice to lead our Sports Information Department. Being an alum of our University and working on other campuses, Andy brings a unique perspective as someone who knows the role athletics play at Waynesburg University and also has different ideas on how to promote our programs, coaches and student-athletes."

Stanko ('17) returned to Waynesburg as after spending the previous two-and-a-half years as the Sports Information Director at Milligan University (Tenn.). Stanko graduated with a degree in Sports Broadcasting/Sports Information from Waynesburg in April 2017.

During his time at Milligan, Stanko was awarded the 2021-22 Willie Belcher AAC SID of  the Year award, selected by the sports information directors across the Appalachian Athletic Conference. He was named to the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 class of 2023. While with the Buffs, he successfully promoted 31 CSC Academic All-Americans, including two Academic All-America Team Members of the Year.

Stanko promoted three NAIA national championship teams, three national runners-up and 17 NAIA and USA Cycling individual or event national champions. He provided statistics at the AAC volleyball, basketball and softball conference tournaments. Under his watch, Milligan's social media presence grew into the largest department-wide Instagram account in the AAC, and Milligan's average monthly social media reach increased by over 600 percent during his tenure.

Before Milligan, he spent the previous two years at Presidents' Athletic Conference member Washington & Jefferson College, where he oversaw all video streaming and launched a new athletics YouTube channel, which posted nearly 200 video highlights over the course of two abbreviated years. He instituted a new "Presidents Postgame" segment for social media, created over 30 Adobe Spark Visual Previews and revamped the Presidents' photo management system.

Stanko spent two years at Frostburg State University as a graduate assistant and intern in the athletic communications office. His primary role at Frostburg State was to oversee video streaming and gameday broadcasts. He broadcasted more than 120 events in 12 different sports and hosted 34 weekly coaches' shows in his two years at Frostburg. He also wrote press releases, game recaps, contributed to media guides and compiled information for student-athlete bios.

Stanko earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Frostburg State in May 2019 and is a member of the College Sports Communicators. During his time at Waynesburg, he was an active member of WCTV, WUSN, WCYJ-FM and the Yellow Jacket. He worked with the PAC in 2016 to produce the PAC Football Focus podcast.

Stanko and his wife Marissa ('16) reside in Waynesburg with their cats, Milo, Rio and Millie.

"Marissa and I are so grateful for the opportunity to return to WU and southwestern PA," said Stanko. "Thank you to Tim Fusina and the entire search committee. I'm excited to get to know and work with the talented student-athletes, coaches and staff at WU. Go Jackets!"
