Men’s Soccer drops nonconference game to Baldwin Wallace

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (September 14) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team struck early but fell to Baldwin Wallace 6-1 at John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Waynesburg moves to 2-2 on the season while BW rises to 4-2-1.

The Jackets struck in the game's third minute as Waynesburg cashed in with a transition goal. Defender Sam Norris (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands)  took the ball from Baldwin Wallace and forwarded possession up the right side to Seth Massotti (Douglas, Mass. / Whitinsville Christian). Massotti sent a diagonal pass to Matthew Serrano (North Potomac, Md. / Thomas S. Wootton) on the left side of the 18-yard box and he fired a shot into the lower opposite corner to give the Jackets a 1-0 edge.

Baldwin Wallace notched an equalizer with an impressive individual effort. The Yellow Jackets' Mike Kane took the ball around midfield, dribbled to 25 yards from goal and placed a shot in the lower left corner to tie the game in the 23rd minute.

Baldwin Wallace took a 2-1 edge late in the first half as a Waynesburg giveaway following a goal kick deep in its own end resulted in a scoring change for BW, which it converted, in the 39th minute. Baldwin Wallace carried its 2-1 edge into halftime and outshot Waynesburg 17-2 (7-1 SOG) over the first 45 minutes.

Baldwin Wallace tacked on goals in the 49th, 63rd, 69th and 71st minutes to pull away for the 6-1 victory. The visitors finished with a 26-6 edge in shots (13-2 SOG) and both teams recorded two corner kicks.

Serrano scored for the second-straight game and had four of Waynesburg's six shots. Michael Francus (Bethel Park, Pa. / Bethel Park) finished with seven saves.

Waynesburg heads to Carlow on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
