EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (January 26) – The Waynesburg University women's wrestling team had four student-athletes compete at the Pennsylvania Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at East Stroudsburg on Sunday.
Faryn Dewitt (Scottdale, Pa. / Southmoreland) took fifth place in the 110-pound bracket. After falling to the eventual third- and fourth-place fishers, she recorded a pin in 55 seconds over Alvernia's Grace Molloy in the fifth place bout.
Ja'Khia Matthews (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) finished seventh at 207 pounds. Both of her matches went into the second period as she fell by fall in her opening match and was edged 6-5 by fifth-place finisher Ajanai Jumper of Penn State Altoona.
Melanie Matherson (Fort Cherry, Pa. / Fort Cherry) entered at the 131-pound weight class while
Kaylee Jegla (Chesterfield, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) competed at 138 pounds.
The Jackets return to action at the John Carroll Women's Open on Feb. 9.
