Waynesburg, Pa. (October 12) - The esports team had an extremely busy two weeks. In that span, the team played a total of 38 games and collected a record of 20-17 (the two Fortnite matches do not count toward the W/L). The Valorant team went 3-1; Marvel Rivals 2-1; Smash Bros 3-1; JV Rocket League 3-1; Varsity Rocket League 3-1; Academy Rocket League 1-3; Overwatch 2-2; EA FC 0-2; NBA2K 2-0; Madden 1-3; and MLB the Show 0-2.
The Valorant team scored victories over Mercyhurst (2-0) on 9/29, Randolph-Macon (2-0) on 9/29, and Mount Union (2-1) on 10/6. The team's sole loss (1-2) can on 10/7 to a very strong SUNY Canton team on 10/7. The Valorant teams heads in week four of competition this week with matches against Pitt Johnstown on 10/15 and Pace on 10/16.
The Marvel Rivals team also tallied two wins with victories over Pace (3-0) on 10/7, Bethany (forfeit) on 10/8, and one very close loss to Alabama-Huntsville (2-3) on 9/30. The team heads into week four with two matches. They will pick up a forfeit victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and will play Russell Sage on 10/15 at 8pm.
The Smash Bros team continued their dominance as well picking up three wins during the past two weeks. They beat Paul Smith's (2-0) on 9/29, Louisiana Lafayette (2-0) on 10/6, and picked up a forfeit win from Alvernia on 10/7. The team takes their winning record in week four with two matches against CCAC on 10/15 and Penn State Behrend on 10/16.
Overall the Rocket League teams combined for a two week record of 7-5. Their wins came from the JV squad beating Mercyhurst 4-0 on 10/1, Brewton Parker Christian 4-1 on 10/2, and SUNY Polytechnic by forfeit on 10/9 with a single 0-4 loss to an extremely tough Lebanon Valley team on 10/8. The varsity team tallied wins against California (PA) 4-3 on 10/1, Murray State (4-0) on 10/8, and Providence (4-1) on 10/9 and lost their only game to William and Mary (1-4) on 10/2. The Academy team rounded out the week with one win against Penn State Behrend (forfeit) and picked up three losses against Worchester Polytechnic (0-4) on 10/1, Post (forfeit) on 10/8, and Buena Vista (1-4) on 10/9. The Rocket League teams will play six matches this week with the biggest matches being the varsity team taking on rivla Stevenson on 10/15 and the JV team battling Edinboro also on 10/15.
The Overwatch team had a split these two weeks with two wins and two losses. Their two wins came against Stockton on 10/2 beating them 3-0 and Montclair State on 10/10 also beating them 3-0. The two losses for the team were both by score of 1-3 and were against Wilkes on 10/3 and Brooklyn on 10/9. The Overwatch team will play Long Island on 10/16 and NECC rival Marywood on 10/17.
The EA FC team featuring freshman
Nate Mayket played two matches and lost both. The first loss came from Southeastern (0-2) on 9/30 and a forfeit loss to Central maine on 10/6. FC will play a TBD opponent on Monday.
Jarvis Thomas of the NBA2K team won two forfeit matches this week to pick up a pair of wins. These forfeits came from Columbia (MD) and Keuka. NBA2K will play a TBD opponent on Tuesday.
The two Madden teams featuring
Jarvis Thomas and
Darrius Mason had a combined record of 1-3. Mason picked up the sole win against Ferris State on 10/2 winning 2-0. His loss was against Oklahoma Wesleyan 0-2. Thomas lost both of this matches to Keiser 0-2 and Post 0-2. Both Mason and Thomas will play TBD opponenets on Thursday night.
Finally, the MLB the Show team featuring freshman
Dayton Reynolds, lost both matches. The first loss was to Wayne State 1-2 on 10/3 and a forfeit loss to Southern Maine. The team will play a TBD opponent on Friday.
