Esports week six recap (10/27 - 10/31)

Jackets clinch multiple playoff spots

Waynesburg, Pa. (November 1) - The Yellow Jackets Esports team secured multiple playoff spots this past week in their NECC and ECAC seasons.

With two weeks left in the regular season, the esports team has broken their previous program record of six playoff appearances (Spring 2025) by qualifying for seven appearances this season. The team also has the possibility of notching another five before the season is over which would give them a total of 12, shattering the previous record.

On Monday (10/27), the Valorant team won a game by forfeit against rival Robert Morris. This win put them at a perfect 6-0 in the regular season. Their last match of the NECC season is Monday (11/3) when they host Champlain (4-2). A win will give them a perfect 7-0 record in the NECC and put them in prime position to take the #1 seed in the NECC playoffs. The team also won their ECAC match on Tuesday (10/25) against Penn State Beaver. After a game one loss, the Jackets bounced back in never lost the lead again in games two and three. They won the match 2-1 and improved their ECAC record to 3-2 with one match left in the regular season. A win on Tuesday (11/4) against Husson will secure them a bid to the ECAC playoffs as well.

The Smash Brothers team currently is tied for the best record of all the varsity teams in esports at 9-1 overall. They have dominated through the season and have already secured playoff spots for both ECAC and NECC. Their 2-0 win on Monday (10/27) against Washington propelled them into the ECAC playoffs with a perfect 5-0 record with two matches remaining. Their NECC regular season ended on Tuesday (10/28) with a 2-0 win against Eastern which also secured them a spot in the NECC playoffs with a final record of 5-1.

The newest esports team, Marvel Rivals, is having a standout season amassing a 9-1 record in the regular season. The team picked up a forfeit win against Transylvania on Tuesday (10/28) which punched their ticket to the NECC playoffs and have one regular season match remaining. They also picked up a forfeit win against Williamson College of the Trades on Thursday (10/30) in an ECAC match. They are currently 4-0 in the ECAC and will secure a playoff spot with a win on Wednesday against Albion.

The varsity Rocket League team picked up an impressive 4-1 win against John Brown on Thursday (10/30) to secure an ECAC playoff bid. With two matches left, they are 4-1 in the ECAC and currently are in second place in their group. The team began a match on Wednesday (10/29) against William and Mary that, due to a game issue, will be finished on Tuesday (11/5). That match is currently 3-2 in favor of William and Mary. Should the varsity team win the match, they will improve their NECC record to 4-2 and secure a playoff spot.

The JV Rocket League team is still alive in the playoff hunt for both ECAC and NECC, but has yet to secure a spot. They improved their NECC record to 3-3 with a Wednesday (10/29) win over Hagerstown Community College. A win on Wednesday against Seton Hill should secure a playoff spot for the JV team in the NECC. On the ECAC side, the team is a perfect 4-0 with three matches left. A win on Thursday against Keiser will secure a playoff spot in the ECAC for the JV team as well.

The Academy Rocket League team picked up a forfeit win on Thursday (10/30) against CCNY. However, the team has been eliminated from playoff contention in both the ECAC and NECC.

Overwatch is headed to the playoffs in the ECAC and NECC again this season after picking up two forfeit wins against Columbia and East Stroudsburg this past week. They have one match remaining in both ECAC and NECC.

The sports games finished the week 2-2 with wins in EA FC and Madden and losses in Madden and NBA2K. Junior Jarvis Thomas has a chance to qualify for a playoff spot in NBA2K if he wins both of his matches on 11/4 and 11/11.
