UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (February 9) – The Waynesburg University women's wrestling team concluded its 2024-25 inaugural season at the John Carroll Open on Sunday.
Ja'Khia Matthews (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) placed third in the 207-pound bracket and
Faryn Dewitt (Scottdale, Pa. / Southmoreland) placed eighth at 110 pounds.
Matthews fell to the weight class champion in her first bout of the day before bouncing back with a pin in 32 seconds over Mount Union's Emily Jirousek. In the final round, Matthews lost by fall to regionally-ranked MacKenzie Laforest of D'Youville.
Dewitt also squared off with regionally-ranked Alanna Barberio of East Stroudsburg in her opening match and fell by fall in the first period. She was bested by fall in the final minute of her consolation round match and conceded a forfeit in the seventh-place bout.
Kaylee Jegla (Chesterfield, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse High School North) also started her day against a regionally-ranked opponent at 138 pounds. She was pinned in 2:03 by East Stroudsburg's Gianna Amendola before bowing out via tech fall in her consolation matchup.
