WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 13) – A pair Waynesburg University men's tennis student-athletes were tabbed as Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday.

Recent Waynesburg graduate Josh DeFries (East Aurora, N.Y. / East Aurora) and rising junior Tyler Gordon (Strongsville, Ohio / OHDELA) collected the academic honor for the first time in their respective careers.

DeFries graduated from Waynesburg with a computer science degree on May 4. A two-year member of the Yellow Jacket men's tennis team, he started at third singles and second doubles. DeFries notched singles and doubles wins in a Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Thiel.

Gordon is a finance major with a cumulative GPA over 3.9 and started at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles in the spring season and recieved All-PAC Honorable Mention honors earlier today. He notched two singles wins and two doubles wins, including a 2-0 day in the Jackets' PAC win over Thiel.

The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student-athletes that excel on the tennis court and in the classroom. To be eligible for academic all-district status, a student-athlete must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition. An student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as a sophomore or above.
