ALLIANCE, Ohio (August 31) - The Waynesburg University men's soccer team visited Mount Union in their second game of the 2025 season and suffered a 2-1 setback.

In similar fashion to Saturday's opener, the Jackets conceded a pair of goals in the first half in the 27th and 31st minutes. Purple Raiders maintained their 2-0 advantage going into the second half of play.

In the 77th minute senior Taylor McFarland (Wheeling, W. Va., Wheeling Park) put the Jackets on the board with their first goal of the game on an assist from Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky., Saint Joseph Central Catholic).

The Jackets managed one shot in the final minutes but Liam Mowbray's (Cumberland, Md. / Allegany) attempt in the 86th minute missed wide. 

Freshman Deven Patel (Columbus, Ohio, St. Francis DeSales) made seven saves in 90 minutes of action.

Mount Union led in the shot category 15-8 (9-4 SOG) while both teams notched four corner kicks. Sarpong Kwabiah (Odenton, Md. / Meade) and Josh Smith (Dover, Ohio / Dover) each recorded two shots for the Jackets.

The Jackets host Penn State Altoona in their 2025 home season opener on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
