BEREA, Ohio (September 13) - The Waynesburg University Men's soccer team recorded its second-straight shutout victory with a 1-0 triumph at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday night.
The win was the second-straight clean sheet for freshmen goalkeeper
Deven Patel (Columbus, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales) and third-straight victory for Waynesburg (3-2). The win marked Waynesburg's first-ever victory over Baldwin Wallace (3-3-1) in the battle of the Yellow Jackets.
Sarpong Kwabiah (Odenton, Md. / Meade) provided the game's only goal at the 24-minute mark with a shot the top left of the frame.
Waynesburg carried the 1-0 edge into halftime, despite being outshot 6-3.
The second half was more of the same for both teams, as Baldwin Wallace outshot Waynesburg 10-1.
In the final 11 minutes of action, Waynesburg's defense and Patel shined. As Patel made a pair of saves and the Jacket back line notched a team save in the 86
th minute. Patel made his fourth and final save in the 89
th minute as Waynesburg escaped with the 1-0 win.
Baldwin Wallace outshot the Jackets 16-4 (5-1 SOG) and had five of the game's six corner kicks.
Waynesburg will have its second home game of the season on Tuesday at 8 p.m., as the Jackets face off against Carlow.
