WAYNESBURG, Pa. (September 20) - The Waynesburg University men's soccer team captured another one-goal win as they triumphed 2-1 over visiting La Roche at John F. Wiley Stadium on Saturday night.
The game started an hour late due to delays in the football game that took place before. This delay did not stop La Roche, as the Redhawks knocked in a second ball from range following corner kick in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets were quick to strike back as Zach Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) made a spectacular flying header off a corner kick from
Darren Gamez (Silver Spring, Md. / Quince Orchard) to tie the game at 1-1 in the 34th.
John Engel (Dallas, Ga. / East Paulding) ripped a shot from the top right of the 18 that was blocked by the keeper,
Nick Bryan (Olathe, Kan. / Blue Valley Southwest), swooped in and finished the job, making the score 2-1.
Goalkeeper
Deven Patel (Columbus, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales) had two saves.
Waynesburg had the advantage in shots taken, leading 11-7 (8-3 SOG). The Jackets also led in corner kicks 4-2.
Waynesburg will be back in action Wednesday at Westminster for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
