Josh Smith (Dover, Ohio / Dover) provided an early second half goal as the Yellow Jackets earned a 1-0 win at Pitt-Greensburg.
The Jackets and the Bobcats both had their fair share of troubles in the first half trying to get any offense going. The Bobcats had two shots on goal in the first half that were both saved by Jackets freshman
Deven Patel (Columbus, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales).
The game was stuck in a stalemate as the score was 0-0 heading into halftime.
The Jackets started applying some offense pressure in the second half and broke through. In the 56th minute, Smith pounced on a loose ball in the eight-yard box and after a corner kick and punched in the game's lone goal. off multiple defenders and kicked it in to break the tie.
The Jackets had five total shots on goal and all five came in the second half. Defensively, Waynesburg held Pitt-Greensburg without a a shot on goal over the game's final 60-plus minutes.
Waynesburg led in the shot column 8-5 and had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Patel (Columbus, Ohio / St. Francis DeSales) recorded his collegiate clean sheet in net.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Berea, Ohio, to take on Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m. next Saturday.
