BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 23) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team hit the road on Wednesday for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Bethany. They Yellow picked up their first conference win of the season by downing the Bison 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper
Zach Reed (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Seton LaSalle) got the nod in net for Waynesburg (3-2-2, 1-1-1) and posted his second shutout of 2026. He recorded four saves against the Bethany (0-6, 0-3) offense.
An 18
th-minute goal from junior forward
Josh Smith (Dover, Ohio / Dover) gave Waynesburg the early 1-0 advantage. Senior forward
Zachary Johnson (Raceland, Ky. / Saint Joseph Central Catholic) picked up his team-leading third assist on the score.
The same pair connected in the 64
th, but with the roles reversed. This time, Smith set up Johnson for his first goal of the season. Sophomore forward
John Engel (Dallas Ga. / East Paulding) added a second helper on the Johnson score.
Junior midfielder
Sarpong Kwabiah (Odenton, Md. / Meade) put the icing on the cake by scoring with 23 seconds left in the contest. It was his team-leading fourth tally of the campaign and it was set up by senior
Braden Esbenshade (Lebanon, Pa. / Mount Calvary).
Waynesburg dominated Bethany in terms of total shots (19-5), shots on goal (14-4) and corners (5-1).
The Jackets get back on the road when they take on the Grove City College Wolverines on Saturday in another PAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
