WELCOME TO 2026
The Waynesburg University football team kicks off its 122^nd season on Saturday by entertaining the Capital Comets. Despite its long history, this will be just the second time Waynesburg has faced Capital, with the last meeting resulting in a 14-7 victory for the Purple and Gray in 1988. Waynesburg is looking to take the next step up the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) ladder after posting back-to-back four-win seasons.

MEET LARRY WILSON
First-year head coach Larry Wilson brings two decades of experience as a high-level assistant within the highly competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) of the NCAA Division II ranks. Over that time, he developed a reputation as an outstanding offensive mind, who was also heavily involved in all aspects of collegiate coaching. COMETS STARTING TO SOAR
Capital has been on a steady upward climb in the rugged Ohio Athletic Conference over the past three seasons. After going winless in 2022, the Comets scored a victory in both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns. This past fall saw the Purple and Gray go 3-7 overall, which was the program's largest win total since logging a trio of triumphs in 2018. Seventh-year head coach Brian Foos's squad nearly took a giant step forward one year ago, as four of those losses came by four points or less.
 
NOT YOUR SLIGHTLY OLDER SIBLING'S OFFENSE
Just a handful of 2025 offensive starters are expected to reprise their roles atop the depth chart this fall. Leading that group is senior running back Zayne Cawley (Huntingtown, Md. / Huntingtown), who was named first-team All-PAC following his 2024 campaign. However, an injury limited him to just three games in the backfield, before senior Carson Shriver (Fairview, W.Va. / Clay-Battelle) did an outstanding job taking over and earning second-team All-PAC status. Junior quarterback Luke Hudson (Morgantown, W.Va. / University) is back under center after getting a full season under his belt. He'll be handling snaps from graduate student center Kory Ansell (Mt. Pleasant, Pa. / Southmoreland), who will lead the offensive line.

SCOUTING THE COMETS
If there was one thing Capital excelled at in 2025, it was getting to the quarterback. The Comets finished second in the OAC with 24 quarterback hits, being bested only by the University of Mount Union. The Purple and Gray defense was also adept at forcing the opposition to cough up the football. Capital finished second in the conference in forced fumbles with 9, eight of which it recovered.
