WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Nov. 1) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team put up a great fight, but couldn't quite pull a season-ending upset over Washington and Jefferson on Saturday night.
With the score tied at 1-1 going into halftime, W&J got the game-winning goal from Jonathan Moore in the 55th minute of the contest to seal the 2-1 victory. The loss dropped Waynesburg to 5-13-2 overall and 0-5-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play.
W&J (8-6-4, 4-1-1) opened the scoring with a score from Josh Nixon around six minutes into the game. The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the 20th minute thanks to sophomore Ryan Gaudy, who buried his third of the season.
Senior Brad Davis made his final collegiate start in net and stopped four shots, while facing 16 W&J shots. His counterpart in goal, Tyler Hodgins, also made four saves to pick up the victory. Both keepers played the entire 90 minutes.
While the loss ends Waynesburg's season, the Presidents move on the PAC playoffs.
