Waynesburg men drop 2-1 contest to La Roche

Late comeback by Yellow Jackets comes up short against Redhawks

Box Score

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 17) – A late comeback attempt by the Waynesburg men's soccer team came up just short as the Yellow Jackets fell to the visiting La Roche Redhawks by the final of 2-1 Wednesday night at John F. Wiley Stadium.

The game had some history to it as it was the first men's soccer game played under the newly installed lights at Wiley Stadium.

After a scoreless first period, La Roche (2-4) broke up the 0-0 tie when Reuben Jolo beat senior Waynesburg goalie Brad Davis on a free ball kick from inside the box, putting the Redhawks up 1-0 in the 50th minute.

The visitors made it 2-0 during the 88th minute when Remone Blake scored on a bending free kick from 18 yards out.

The Yellow Jackets mounted a late rally just one minute later when senior midfielder Mike DeAngelis took a feed from freshman David Floyd and beat La Roche keeper Jonathan Happel, trimming the score to 2-1.

Unfortunately, time ran out before Waynesburg could complete the come back. The loss ends a modest two-game winning streak for the Jackets, who move to 3-4-1 on the year.

Waynesburg will try to start a new winning streak on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Penn State Erie, the Behrend Campus, for a 1 p.m. game.
