Jackets soccer drop heart-breaker to Franciscan

Second-half goal dooms Waynesburg as they fall 1-0

Box Score

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Sept. 5) – The Waynesburg men's soccer team put up a good fight against Franciscan (Ohio) on Saturday, but a Baron goal in the second half was enough to down Waynesburg 1-0 at the Geneva College Invitational.

The Jackets' Tyler Hellwig got the start in net and made three saves before being replaced early the second half by Luke Navickas. Navickas stopped four-of-five shots on goal, but allowed the game-winner off the foot of Christian Boback.

Freshman Jared Dobsch and junior Ryan Hartz led Waynesburg (0-3) with three shots each.

The Yellow Jackets will take another crack at ending their season-opening losing streak on Tuesday, when they travel to Maryland to face Frostburg State in a 6 p.m. contest.
