FROSTBURG, Md. (Sept. 8) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team ended one skid, but unfortunately couldn't put another to rest as they lost a 5-2 contest at Frostburg State on Tuesday.
Though the Jackets ended their three-game scoreless streak by taking a 2-0 lead just 23 minutes into the game, they couldn't hold the lead and fell to 0-4 to open the 2009 season.
As previously mentioned, Waynesburg got off to a tremendous start as sophomore forward Erick Burke scored the game's first goal by heading in a cross from Ryan Gaudy just 46 seconds in to the game.
Burke made it 2-0 around 22 minutes later when he scored off of a Jeremy Pronto feed. Unfortunately, Frostburg tied the game before the end of the first half, and out-scored the Yellow Jackets 3-0 in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Tyler Hellwig took the loss after making eight saves in net.
The Jackets will look for win number one on Sept. 11, when they travel to Ohio to take part in the John Carroll Tournament. The event continues on until Saturday, Sept. 12.
