Men's soccer falls at home to unbeaten Frostburg State

After scoring first, Yellow Jackets give up three scores and fall 3-1

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22) – The Waynesburg University men's soccer team came into Saturday's nonconference matchup with Frostburg State on a roll. The Yellow Jackets, winners of their last two matches, appeared poised for another strong performance against the Bobcats after taking an early lead. Unfortunately, the unbeaten Bobcats battled back from an early deficit and took the contest 3-1 Saturday evening at John F. Wiley Stadium.
 
With the loss the Jackets drop back to .500 overall at 4-4, while the Bobcats remained unbeaten at 7-0-1.
 
Things started well for Waynesburg, which got on the board first in the 12th minute of play, when sophomore Cody Lemke used a long pass from goalkeeper Brandon Daughtry to make it 1-0 Jackets. After the opening score, momentum turned back to Frostburg State, which scored a trio of goals in an 11-minute span just before the close of the first half. Waynesburg held Frostburg in check in the second half, but the home team was held scoreless, as well.
 
Frostburg held a major advantage in shots (22-6) and also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Daughtry started in net and played the first half, making two saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Seth Polk relieved Daughtry in the second and made two saves.
 
The Yellow Jackets will try to get back on the right track, when they travel to Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
