WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Dec. 9) – The Waynesburg University wrestling team hosted a home quad-match on Saturday at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. The 24
th-ranked Yellow Jackets defeated The Apprentice School and Penn State Behrend, but were unable to overcome ninth-ranked Baldwin Wallace.
Waynesburg (6-3) opened its day with a 35-12 win over Apprentice (1-2) and ended it by downing Behrend (1-10) 41-9. Session two featured the headlining match of the day as the host squad faced off with BW.
After Baldwin Wallace (9-0) opened the scoring with a decision win at 125 pounds, Waynesburg tied the score at 3-3 thanks to freshman
Josh Kuslock's 8-5 win at 133 pounds. Back-to-back decisions at 141 and 149 gave the lead back to the visiting Yellow Jackets at 9-3.
Waynesburg sophomore
Zach Mackall closed the deficit with a 12-3 major decision at 157 pounds to make the score 9-7. Unfortunately, that was the home team's final win of the match until heavyweight. Over that same stretch, BW built up a 23-7 advantage going into the 285-pound class.
Junior
Jake Evans closed the match with a 7-3 victory to wrap up the hotly contested showdown. Three of Waynesburg's setbacks in the middle match were by three points or less.
Kuslock and Mackall posted perfect 3-0 records on the day. Kuslock defeated Baldwin Wallace's Charlie Nash, who is currently featured in the D3Wrestle.com national rankings. Mackall came up with one of the most productive days of any wrestler at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse, adding two pins to his major decision win.
Evans went 2-0 over the trio of matches, while Buxton, freshman
Matt Lascola and sophomore
Dillion Charlton posted 2-1 marks. Buxton's 18-3 technical fall against Apprentice was his 100
th collegiate victory.

Adam Rigney added a win each to Waynesburg's day. Baxter gave second-ranked Anthony Arroyo of BW a good fight in their meeting, which went 5-0 to Arroyo.
Waynesburg will compete one more time in 2017. The Jackets will make one of their longest road trips of the season when they travel to Garden City, New York, to compete in the Long Island Open on Sunday, Dec. 17. Action is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
