MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 23) – The Waynesburg University men's track & field team spent parts of Friday and Saturday competing at West Virginia University's Mountaineer Showcase. There was no team scoring at the event.
The Yellow Jackets found their most success in the throws. Senior
Jerry Farrelli (Monongahela, Pa. / Ringgold) shined the brightest amongst the throwers, as he took third in the javelin with a top toss of 47.40 meters (155-06). Freshman
Isaac Huey (Klymer, Pa. / Purchase Line) followed just behind his older teammate with the fourth-place toss of 47.33 meters (155-03).
Sophomore
Aidan Sheely (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg) added a strong showing of his own, taking fifth in the hammer throw with a heave of 35.76 meters (117-04).
Moving to the jump pits, freshman
Adam Helbling (Bridgeville, Pa. / South Fayette) posted top-eight finishes in both the triple and long jumps. Helbling took the bronze in the triple jump after a hop, skip and a jump of 12.58 meters (41-3.25). He also took eighth in the long jump after leaping 6.13 meters (20-1.50).
Waynesburg enjoyed its most success on the track in the 5,000 meters, where it boasted a pair of top-seven finishes. Sophomore
Jac Cokley (Cochranton, Pa. / Cochranton) placed sixth with a time of 16:54.01, while classmate
Andrew Kasper (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) followed immediately in seventh place with a time of 17:01.71).
The Jackets are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, April 28, when they return to WVU to compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
