WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Aug. 24) – The Waynesburg University Esports team recently revealed its first-ever schedule, which includes taking part in three different games in a nationally recognized collegiate esports organization this year. The Yellow Jackets will be very busy with over 30 scheduled competitions in just over two months of play.

The Jackets will compete in League of Legends, Rocket League and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (singles competition). Most members of this year's team will specialize in one game, while a few could branch out into multiple competitions.

Waynesburg's will duke it out with the opposition in the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC). With more than 100 colleges and universities currently competing in the conference, the NECC strives to be a positive home for the collegiate gaming community.

Regardless of the game, all NECC play begins with a pair of "Activation" dates. The point of these dates is for the conference to compile results and group programs together into divisions in order to create the most competitive experience possible. The colleges and universities The Jackets will face off against can consist of any team located in Eastern Standard Time and with any size student population.

All three game schedules conclude with postseasons and will be updated as opponents are scheduled for each title. Later in the year, Waynesburg is expected to release its first spring season schedule.

The Waynesburg esports program will be structured to feature both varsity and academy competitors. While the idea of a varsity team is self-explanatory, academy level in esports is very similar to junior varsity level in other athletic competitions. All esports athletes will attend regular practices and physical training. Each varsity roster will consist of starters and one or two substitutes, depending on team size for each game.

The Yellow Jackets are led by Director/Head Coach Matt Pioch. He is joined on his staff by assistant coach Jay Hawk and graduate assistant Scott Miller.
