Jasmine Demaske (Waynesburg. Pa. / Jefferson-Morgan) and junior baseball player
Marcos Mendez (Ponce, Puerto Rico / Westminster (Md.)) on being named the latest Waynesburg Athletes of the Week.
Demaske hit .538 (7-13) with three doubles, a triple, a homerun, six runs scored and five RBIs over a 4-0 week for the Yellow Jackets. The freshman standout slugged 1.154 and sported a .571 on-base percentage to go with her three multi-hit performances over the week.
The versatile speedster was successful on both of her stolen base attempts and played error-free defense with six assists. Demaske's eight stolen bases on the year are good for ninth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).
Mendez hit .467 (7-15) over four games, all starts, this past week. He added four doubles, a home run, three runs scored and nine RBIs. Mendez slugged .933 and drew three walks to help with his .556 on-base percentage.
The junior standout is slugging .590 on the year, which is good for fourth in the PAC. His three homeruns are tied for second most in the conference.
The Yellow Jacket softball team will look to continue its 11-game winning streak this afternoon when it hosts Denison for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader. The baseball team will look to build on Saturday's 16-6 win over Bethany when it travels to Penn State Behrend for a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
