Waynesburg, Pa (Dec. 18) - The Rocket League JV team dominated Nelson University 4-0 to win the programs first ECAC title.
The team won the series with a very strong 4-0 match which featured scoring from all three players. The win propelled the team to the esports program's first ever ECAC title. The program has previosly won conference and national championships in NECC.
Game one ended in a 2-1 win for the Jackets. Freshman
Jeremiah Darnell and
Cade Henderson both tallied a goal and an assist and freshman
John Kraynak provided backup with four saves. The team got out to a quick start scoring their first goal of the series in the first 30 seconds of play. Darnell added the game winning goal midway through the game.
Game two was also a 2-1 win for Waynesburg, This time Henderson scored both goals and added one save while Kraynak assisted and Darnell provided strong backline support.Â
Game three saw Nelson take their only lead of the series scoring a quick goal in the first 15 seconds. However, the Jackets quickly bounced back and scored four unanswered goals to close out the game 4-1. Darnell lead the team in goals with two and Kraynak and Henderson both added a goal. All three players also had two saves each.Â
Game four was all Waynesburg. The team closed out the series beating Nelson 8-1 to clinch the ECAC title. Henderson lead the team in goals with four. Darnell added 3 goals and an assist and Kraynak tallied one goal and three assists. After scoring the first goal of the game, Nelson answered quickly. However, Waynesburg took over the drivers seat and peppered the Nelson goal for six unanswered points.
This win capped off a perfect ECAC season for the Rocket League JV team. Their regular season record was 7-0 and they stormed through the ECAC playoffs beating Penn State Behrend 4-0 in round one, SUNY Polytechnic 4-2 in the quarterfinals, Trine 4-2 in the semifinals to lead them to Nelson.Â
This title matched capped off an amazing season for the Yellow Jackets esports team which set several team records - most wins in a season (85), most playoff appearances (12), and most playoff wins (10).
