Waynesburg, Pa. (March 4) – The Waynesburg Esports team continued its dominating run through the NECC and ECAC this week with a combined record of 7-2.
The Smash Brothers team split their matches winning their match against Western Illinois 2-0 on Monday (2/24) to remain unbeaten in ECAC play and have qualified for the playoffs. They dropped their second match of the week in a very close set against York College 1-2 on Tuesday (2/25). They fall to 2-2 in NECC play but are still in the running for a playoff spot.
The JV Rocket League team also split their matches this week. They lost to Army (2-3) in a very close set on Monday (2/24) and fall to 0-4 in NECC play. The team bounced back on Wednesday (2/26) 0winning their match against Alice Lloyd College 4-2 and improving to 4-1 in ECAC play and also qualifying for the playoffs.
The varsity Rocket League team, lead by Esports Athlete of the Week,
AJ Smolen, had a perfect run winning both of their matches. They beat Northeastern 4-2 on Wednesday (2/26) improving their ECAC record to 4-1 and qualifying for the playoffs. On Thursday (2/27), the team also beat Messiah 3-1 in their NECC match and improved their record to 4-0. The varsity team is the only esports team in action this week playing matches on Wednesday (3/5) and Friday (3/7) against University of Michigan – Flint and Stevenson University respectively.
The Overwatch team continued their bulldozing of the ECAC and NECC winning three more matches this against SUNY Niagara, SUNY Polytechnic, and King's College. On Tuesday (2/25), they won the first of of their two ECAC matches against SUNY Niagara 3-0 and their second against SUNY Polytechnic on Thursday (2/27) also by a score of 3-0. They finished the week with a win against King's College in an NECC match on Friday (2/28) also by a score of 3-0. The Overwatch team improved to 6-0 in ECAC play and qualified for the playoffs and also 4-0 in NECC play.
All the teams will be back in action next week after Spring Break.
