Waynesburg, Pa. (April 30) - For the first time since 1966, a Waynesburg athletic team will compete in a national championship game. The Rocket League team defeated Stevenson University 4-1 to secure a spot in the NECC national championship game on May 8.

The Jackets dominated the Mustangs in all but one game. The Jackets won the series 3-0, 6-1, 2-3 (OT), 3-0, and 2-0. The Jackets smothered the Mustang team with intense pressure on offense and limited time in their own zone to less than 30% in each game.  Team captain AJ Smolen led the team in scoring and junior Noah Westover and freshman Bobby Ballentyne both contributed on offense and defense to secure the esports program's first trip to a national championship game.

The team will be in action next Thursday (5/8) against the winner of Bradley University vs. Tarleton State University who play tomorrow (5/1) at 9:00pm.
