WAYNESBURG, Pa. (May 13) – Four Waynesburg University women's tennis student-athletes were selected as Academic All-District honorees by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday afternoon.
Rising seniors
Alli Bailey (Mount Pleasant, Pa. / Mount Pleasant),
Aubrey Burns (Kittanning, Pa. / Armstrong) and
Julia Corey (Eighty Four, Pa. / Ringgold) and rising junior
Julia Luzar (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) each collected the academic honor for the first time. Four women's tennis student-athletes receiving CSC academic honors is the most in team history.
Bailey is a health and exercise science major and led the Yellow Jackets with six singles wins. She appeared in all 14 matches and was Waynesburg's starter at fifth singles and third doubles. Bailey picked up Presidents' Athletic Conference victories in singles action over Saint Vincent and Thiel.
Burns is nursing major and a CSC Academic All-District pick for the Waynesburg women's basketball team. She was the Jackets' starter at sixth singles and tied for third on the team with three singles wins.
Bailey and Burns teamed for four wins at No. 3 doubles, the most at any flight, including a PAC win over Thiel.
Corey is an accounting major and enjoyed a breakout season at second doubles. She notched five wins, second-most on the team, and had a three-match winning streak in the fall and won her final two singles bouts in the spring. Corey played No. 2 doubles throughout the year and picked up a pair of wins.
Luzar is a criminal justice administration major and started at Waynesburg's No. 1 singles spot in all 14 matches in 2024-25. She also played the top doubles flight alongside freshman
Julia Umshares (Washington, Pa. / Trinity).
The CSC Academic All-District program recognizes student-athletes that excel on the tennis court and in the classroom. To be eligible for academic all-district status, a student-athlete must be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition. An student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as a sophomore or above.
