BETHANY, W.Va. (September 13) – The Waynesburg University women's cross country team ran its first 6K of the fall on Saturday at the Bethany Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets placed fifth in the team standings with 121 points. The field included NCAA Division II and NAIA programs along with Presidents' Athletic Conference opponents.
Senior
Grace Tanksley (Bedford, Ind. / Bedford North Lawrence) was Waynesburg's top finisher, placing 23rd in 25:30.8. Freshman
Erin Belveal (Bay Village, Ohio / Bay) followed close behind in 24th with a 25:31.6.
Sophomore
Taylor Severt (Howard, Ohio / East Knox) placed 39th in 27:16.1, while junior
Chloe Fields (Linesville, Pa. / Conneaut) finished 42nd at 27:28.5. Freshman Alexis Hepburn (Somerset, Pa. / Rockwood Area) rounded out the team's scoring five in 54th, crossing in 28:37.0.
Freshman
Lauryn Jones (Somerset, Pa. / Rockwood Area) and sophomore
Amber Sallee (Bentleyville, Pa. / Bentworth) completed Waynesburg's top seven, finishing 55th (28:52.9) and 60th (29:07.9), respectively. Several more Jackets also competed to give Waynesburg a full presence in the 82-woman field.
Waynesburg returns to competition next Saturday, September 20, at the PAC Preview hosted by Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
