NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio (Sept. 20) – Senior
Matt Karpeal (Smithfield, Pa. / Albert Gallatin) fired a 75 to place runner-up individually and lead the Waynesburg University men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Golden Eagles Invitational on Friday at Oak Shadows Golf Club. The Jackets totaled a 330 in the six-team field that featured 42 players.
Bethany's A team claimed the team title with a 307, while the Bison's Jude Smith earned medalist honors with a 68. Host Kent State Tuscarawas finished runner-up at 321, followed by Geneva at 327. Waynesburg edged Bethany's B team by seven strokes.
Karpeal set the pace for the Jackets with his runner-up round, which also earned him all-tournament honors.
Senior
Hudson Pincavitch (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) added an 83 to place in a tie for 12th, while sophomore
Braden Benke (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) and sophomore
Alan Tarolli (Washington, Pa. / Fort Cherry) each recorded rounds of 86. Sophomore
Brady Donovan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Brentwood) rounded out the Jacket lineup with a 93.
Competing as individuals, junior
Nate Barnhart (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) shot a 96, freshman Michael Moore (Waynesburg, Pa. / Waynesburg Central) posted a 98, and junior
Kent Peterson (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) carded a 108.
The Jackets return to action tomorrow when they take on Carlow in a dual match at Youghiogheny Country Club in McKeesport, Pa.
