UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio (Feb. 1) – The Waynesburg University women's wrestling team opened the month February with a trip to the John Carroll University Open on Sunday. There was no team scoring at the event.

The Yellow Jackets were paced by sophomore Ja'Khia Matthews (Phoenix, Ariz. / Albermale), who placed fourth at 207 pounds. After dropping her first bout of the day, Matthews fired back by pinning SkyLynn Picarski of Alma in just 17 seconds for one of the fastest falls of the tournament. That win propelled her into the third-place bout, where Matthews settled for fourth.

Freshman Haylie Russano (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) joined Matthews as a top-eight placer at 131 pounds. After going the distance in a 9-2 decision loss to open her day, Russano battled back to pick up a 10-0 technical superiority win over Thomasina Moncheck of Washington & Jefferson. She eventually wound up in the seventh-place contest, which she won by injury default.

Freshman Anastasia Curitti (Fernley, Nev. / Coral Academy of Science) gave Waynesburg a third place winner, doing so at 124 pounds. Curitti picked up a 10-0 technical superiority victory over Mount Union's Olivia Gill in consolations and clinched her final placement in the seventh-place bout by pinning John Carroll's Roma LaGiurato in 77 seconds.

Waynesburg wraps up the 2025-26 season on Saturday, Feb. 7, with a trip to the Bobcat Open, which is being hosted by Frostburg State University. Start time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
