Waynesburg, Pa. (February 16) - The esports team finished the week with another winning record of 7-6.
The Smash Bros. team continued its winning streak finishing the week 2-0 with shoutout wins over Elmire and Michigan-Flint. The team finished the Elmira match in record time with sophomore
Cash Wieczorek and freshman
Braiden Decker taking a majority of the stocks in the match. Wieczorek and Decker followed up in the Michigan-Flint match with an amazing performance. Wieczorek took all 12 stocks in the first game of the match and Decker took the next 11. Sophomore Makai-o Nihipali-Sanchez finished out the match by taking the last stock.
Valorant split their week going 1-1 against New Mexico State and Idaho. The team beat New Mexico State 2-1 on Monday (2/9). It was a very tight back and forth match. After winning the first game 16-14, the Jackets lost the second game 10-13. In the final game the Jackets dominated New Mexico State 13-4 to close out the series. Sophomore
Bobby Ballentyne lead the team in offensive production with 63 kills with senior captain
Felicia Duffy in a close second with 62. The Jackets stumbled against Idaho losing 0-2. It was an extremely lopsided match that saw the Jackets lose game one 0-13 and the second 8-13. Waynesburg was never able to establish a solid offensive presence.
Marvel Rivals also finished the week with a 1-1 record recording a loss to Pace on Tuesday and a win on Wednesday against SUNY Empire. Freshman
Caitlin Nguyen was the star of the match for Waynesburg earning SVP honors in two of the three match loses. She played equally well in both strategist and duelist roles. On Wednesday the team flipped the script on SUNY Empire and had complete control of the match from start to finish winning 3-0. Sophomre captain
Cash Wieczorek earned MVP honors in two of the games for his opprosive vanguard play and freshman
Thomas Martin picked up the final MVP for his strategist play.
The Fortnite team of
Paul Sembower and
Noah Davis made headway in their push for a playoff spot. They picked up 32 points in their zero build match and 52 points in their traditional match.
Jarvis Thomas picked up his first NBA2K win of the season with a forfeit win from St. Francis. He also lost his Madden match by forfeit to Southern.
The varsity Rocket League team suffered two shutout loses this week losing 0-4 to Edinboro and Hartford. Despite their best efforts, the team failed to establish a strong offensive push in any of the games. This extremely uncharacteristic play from the team puts their season record at 1-3.
The JV Rocket League did not fare any better. Their sole game ended in a loss to Mercyhurst 1-4. Despite the loss, the team still has a winning record at 2-1. Sophomore team captain
Joel Menear led the team in scoring with seven goals.
The varsity Overwatch team amassed a 1-1 record with a loss to SUNY Cobleskill 1-3 and a win over Drexel 3-0. The team is 2-0 in NECC play and 0-2 in ECAC play.
Noah Westover had 38,000 damage as Tank;
Felicia Duffy had 61 assists on Support in the loss to Cobleskill.

The JV Overwatch team closed out the week with a forfeit win over Mount Union.
